Folded leaflets give you far more space than a flat flyer while staying small enough to slip into a pocket, a display rack or an envelope. They're ideal for takeaway menus, price lists, event programmes, tourist guides and mini brochures. But which fold should you choose?
Half fold (4 pages)
The simplest option: one sheet folded in half to make four panels, like a greetings card. It's great for simple menus, order of service sheets and product overviews. See our DL 4-page and A5 4-page leaflets.
Z-fold (concertina, 6 pages)
The sheet is folded back and forth into a zig-zag, giving six panels that open like an accordion.
- Best for: step-by-step information, maps, timelines and content people read in order
- Why choose it: it opens quickly and lets readers see the whole inside spread at once
C-fold (roll fold, 6 pages)
The two outer panels fold inwards, one over the other, like a letter.
- Best for: menus, brochures and leaflets with a "reveal", where the inside flap teases the main content
- Why choose it: it feels neat and closed, and protects the inside panels
Both folds are available on our DL 6-page leaflets and A5 6-page leaflets.
How to plan the panels
Folded leaflets are easy to get wrong, because the panel people see first isn't always the one you expect. As a rule:
- Front cover: logo, headline and a strong image
- Back cover: contact details, map and social links
- First inside flap: your hook, such as an offer or introduction
- Inside spread: the main content, like your menu, services or prices
If you're unsure, add our Design Service and we'll lay it out properly. We always send a proof so you can check every panel before printing.
Choosing paper for folded leaflets
Lighter silk or gloss papers fold crisply and are economical in volume. Heavier stocks feel premium but need creasing to fold cleanly, which we handle for you. Read more in our guide to paper weights.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a Z-fold and a C-fold?
A Z-fold folds back and forth like a concertina. A C-fold rolls both outer panels inwards like a letter. Both give six panels.
Which fold is best for a menu?
A C-fold is popular for takeaway menus because it closes neatly, while a Z-fold works well when you want the whole inside visible at once.
